Liebherr became a member of Germany’s Short Sea Shipping Inland Waterway Promotion Center (SPC) on 1 May 2015. The equipment manufacture said its SPC membership will reinforce the exchange of information with players who are dedicated to sustainable multimodal transport services.
The pre-requisites for such offers are spot-on handling solutions, and the company’s maritime sector has proven competence in that field. In addition, Liebherr’s handling equipment benefits short sea and inland shipping as it enable loads to be shifted in a safe and swift manner from one transport mode to another.
The various specialisations of SPC’s members gives the organisation a holistic view of logistics processes and their potential for a modal shift. The body’s CEO, Markus Nölke, observed, "it is important to integrate all parties that are involved in the transport chain into our network. We are therefore delighted to welcome Liebherr as a member. Without innovative handling equipment we cannot achieve our goal of transferring as many goods as possible to the waterways."
